Hello, I'm Rachel
I am a creative – I make films, I write stories, and I act. I am always looking for new ways to express myself, and share what I learn. I want to spark conversations with my creativity, and have a particular interest in grief and loss.
I am a magpie in that I do a lot of things – I coach, I direct films and theatre, I cheerlead, I dance, I listen, I create workshops and facilitate groups in informal and professional settings.
I use neuroscience to help you understand your brain and your wiring more. To find a deeper connection to your body and its wisdom. Many of us live from the neck up, doing a lot of thinking and not enough feeling.
This is particularly scary when we are facing uncertainty or loss or major change. It’s almost as if our bodies are betraying us, the sensations so big as to overwhelm, like a tsunami taking all of our sense of reality and calm and self in waves.
I am not afraid of big feelings – I have had a lot of my own, between the death of my father, the death of my nephew, and playing many different characters with varying levels of trauma on the stage and in film. This familiarity with emotions comes first from my lived experience, which has translated into being an actor.
Thinking will only get you so far. You can’t think yourself out of a panic attack, or racing heartbeat before a difficult conversation. It’s more a matter of knowing what’s happening, and engaging that observer brain so you can name it and let it pass through you.
